Head of Primary | Science, Maths
I am a qualified Primary teacher with 25 years’ experience of teaching all subjects in mainstream KS1 and KS2 as well as Additional Needs and have led ICT and Music teaching in the Primary curriculum. During this time, I have seen the challenges that children with identified difficulties such as ADHD and ASD, as well as those whose anxiety or different learning styles are not formerly recognised, experience.
I have also taught Post-16 learners with a wide range of additional needs from severe and moderate learning difficulties and autism to students with High Functioning Autism/Asperger’s Syndrome. I have taught vocational and Functional Skills to mainstream students who needed to re-engage with education or boost their qualification. While working as a tutor at a specialist ASD Sixth Form college I gave study skills support in A level Maths and Sciences, taught Entry Level to Level 2 Functional Skills and taught GCSE level ICT.
I have a passion for including all learners and especially those for whom the conventional classroom not well suited and have built experience in tailoring the curriculum flexibly to the needs of individuals and small groups.
My academic background is principally in Sciences and my degree course was in Environmental Sciences, covering a wide range of perspectives on Environmentalism and Resources as well as Climate Science. I am keenly interested in issues of sustainable development and ecology and am excited by the new opportunities opening up to equip our children to be thoughtful global citizens.
My hobbies include playing music, especially piano and accordion, history, cooking and horticulture, and spending time with my grandchildren. I enjoy walking and cycling and love living on a canal boat in the beautiful Wiltshire countryside.
